Hey runners, in today's newsletter, the super shoe arms race just escalated again.

Nike has unveiled the Apex, a zero-drop racer stacking 40mm under both heel and forefoot, landing days after the Adidas Pro Evo 3 swept every podium spot in Berlin. At the same time, two elite marathoners sidelined by injury have reopened the debate over whether super shoes are actually hurting runners.

Elsewhere, Nike expects its sales to shrink this fiscal year and has launched a restructuring it says will save $2.5 billion. The 2027 Berlin Marathon lottery is open until November 12, with Generali replacing BMW as title sponsor after a 16-year run that produced six world records. And the 2027 London Marathon will double as Britain's trial for both Beijing and Los Angeles.

And as always, we round things out with the practical stuff: jogging vs running, ways to make your runs feel easier, and six reasons every runner should cross-train.
