Hey runners, in today’s newsletter, Chicago delivered two of the fastest winning times in race history.

Amos Kipruto broke away from Jacob Kiplimo between 30K and 35K to win on his third attempt, with the defending champion fading to fourth after losing more than three minutes over the final 12K. Hawi Feysa defended her title in a personal best, dropping Sharon Lokedi in the last kilomeeters, with Brigid Kosgei third.

There was plenty happening behind them too. Galen Rupp broke the American masters record at 40, taking more than three minutes off the old mark. And Vinny Mauri, in only his second marathon, was on American record pace through 30K before stopping to stretch and finishing 10th.

And as always, we round things out with the practical stuff: whether to do cardio or strength first, why your hamstrings are always tight, and the ideal temperature for running.

Aisha McAdams, a former competitive runner turned photographer, embarks on a journey to document the triumphs and struggles of famed ultra trail runners, including Jim Walmsley and Vincent Bouillard. Traveling to mythical races—the Western States Endurance Run in the mountains of eastern California, the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in the French Alps—the film marvels at athletes who maintain their intensity as they run 100 miles of mountain trails while climbing thousands of vertical feet.
