Newsletter #807: Saturday, 9th May 2026

Hey runners, in today’s newsletter, the sport feels like it’s stretching in every direction at once.

One of Europe’s best distance runners is taking aim at a record that’s stood for years, a reminder that even some of running’s oldest, simplest events still carry enormous weight. At the same time, major brands continue pushing deeper into the heart of the sport, with Nike making a move that says a lot about where it sees running’s future.

Elsewhere, the summer racing calendar is starting to come alive. Big-city road races are assembling stacked fields, track stars are experimenting with new events, and one ultrarunner’s breakout performance in the desert is suddenly forcing everyone to learn her name.

And as always, we round things out with the practical side of running — from warmups and marathon lessons to the jump from 26.2 to ultra distances — plus a few reminders of why this sport keeps pulling people back in.
